hi all

right i checked the pond today and on my gin rin chags side just above the pectoral fin he has a little patch of raised scales about the size of a 10p piece it looks a little like pine cone but is isolated to one spot

hes not bothered by it and is still first up and last down to feed hes about 18 inches in length  im just dropping the temp in my qt setup in case he needs to go in there i was thinking of salting the whole pond what do you guys think of the idea i know all the pitfalls of salt but if it is bacterial then it would help yes

thanks steve

is the scales rough to the touch if they are these are dead scales n will need removing as it sounds like an ulcer , u will have to sedate the koi first though before you carry this out

next you will want a good medical kit i have used the kusuri one as this has everything you need to treat your koi incl the sedative

i personally wouldnt want to salt the whole pond n you are lucky to have a quarantine tank to put it in as this can be heated to aid recovery

keep an eye on it as it might need some antibiotics injecting into the koi if the above fails

dont forget you will need to remove all the muck off the wound b4 you spray the top coat

mm I think I would try a series of salt baths first and see how it reacts to them if it does look inflamed underneath the scales then go for johns method
