Thank you, Tam. I thought I was pretty much a lone voice in the salt stakes. I accept pp to be very efficient but I just feel that in inexperienced hands it could be lethal.

Got to agree with u on that one Stewart last year was the first time i never salted the pond for winter had a few probs coincidence i dont think so,the only reason i gave it a miss last year was to b,loody lazy at 5,000gal its a lot of salt m8. when i check my records and find out how much it will be going in again, mind u i still like the PP;)

Against the majority opinion I am a believer in salting my pond for the winter. I do not have half the problems which seem to plague others and genuinely believe that salt is the reason. I think it is a very under rated friend of the koi keeper.

We salted the pond with 10kg then took a sample to Teesside Koi where they did a saline check which came out at 0.1, they told us to go to 0.17 so we added another 5kg today. Sue is going to take a sample in tomorrow to check again.

We are still trying to get rid of whitespot. The fish went from being very slow to swimming normally after we introduced the salt. Dont know if it was coincidence or what.

the higher your organic load in the pond the less time it will remain active for if you put some pp in a bucket of clean water it will remain active for absaloutly ages..to be effectiver against parasites it needs to stay active for 3 to 4 hours have you salted your pond at all ?

yes.

thats when you add the ho2o to clear the colour or you could just let the filter clear it. but will take a good while without the h2o2

hi maddad when using pp for parasites ideally it should stay purple for 3-4 hours if it doesnt it will need another dose:)

I'll try this on here as well guys.

I am currently pp the pond, treating "ich". Can someone tell me how long the pp remains in the pond and how long it remains active. From what info I have gathered on "ich" I could Lose everything. I cant treat with other stuff cos of the temp and dont have a means of heating the 2500 gals
