i use hikari wheatgerm all year round its low on waste n gives good clarity

i use i think its called Nigikoi cause there is different types for each season, it has made an improvement on my large 3 in my growing pond, the others are 2 new to tell

Many thanks for the response. I noticed the EA food ad in Koi Carp and it sounds very promising looking at what it is made of. It will certainly be interesting to see what results it produces.

I've been using Hikari for as long as I can remember, various mixes of Wheatgerm with Excel. When it went off the market I used Kusuri multiseason as a substitute but now I am back to Hikari.

As the original poster said there are so many on the market these days. This was mainly due to a number of manufacturers, a lot of the UK based trying to fill the gap in the market left by Hikari.

There's a sequence of articles about some of these new foods in the latest edition of Koi Carp. The EA one has caught my interest, being made from worms etc as opposed to fish meal. I'll give it try sometime soon.

Many thanks for this. I agree with you that it comes down to personal choice has every manufacture markets their food saying "its the best thing since sliced bread". Hence why I kicked this question off so I can (hopefully) get loadsa peoples views then make an informed decision of what to use. I have a friend who uses about 5 types of food because he says "otherwise its like eating chips everyday" and his fish are stunning.

I use Hikari wheatgerm all through the winter (unheated). In summer i use a few - Medicarp, nobori, bit of wheatgerm, gonna try saki hikari growth this year too, bit of silkworm pupea. I soften all my food - couple of days worth at a time and kept in fridge. Also sprinkle on a little clay and when ive got some propolis too. Added to all this they get the odd bit of letuce, cucumber and orange slices. Like to give them a good varied diet. :)

I use the Medikoi range. Beauty for 3 weeks, health for 2 then back to beauty and so on. They also get the medikoi growth. I have used this brand for a year now and im happy with results ie not to much waste, healthy fish and great colours. Some people say that there water goes cloudy when using the health. I have not had this problem.

As koi keepers we always try to better the food that we are feeding and many people have a lot of opinons on whats good and whats not.

I think in the end its all down to personal choice and ive had no problem with the above so for the moment i will stick with it though im sure many people will disagree with my choice

Anyway thats my pennies worth

Hi Everybody,

What food have people been using to feed their KOi. How did it improve growth, colour etc.

With so many foods available, its hard to decide what to feed our watery friends.

I have been using Kusuri Supersilk for the past 2 years and found this good, but recently purchased some Hikari Gold. Within 10 days the colours on the fish were much improved. I am also thinking about medicarp so would appreciate peoples views on this.

It would be quite interesting to see peoples views and see if there is a common theme coming through. Thanks for reading
