Hi guys & gals

Since heating my pond to 15c 3 weeks ago my water has steadily got cloudy.

obviously the feeding has increased which could influence it.

the water parameters are spot on Nitrite= (trace)  Ammonia = (trace) but over the past 3 days the PH has dropped from 7.5 to 6.8

I was getting a bit of a protein problem by last weekend so I ran the protein skimmer for a couple of days to remove it.

the cloudiness is not fines its just colour (whitish) could it be a bacteria bloom?

would it benefit from a dose of P.P?

Has your UV tube lost its power?

Hi Stewart.

thanks for the response.

I dont have the UV on at the moment because my pond is heated and covered which reduces and filters the amount of light in the pond.

I think I have found the answer:

Since strating heating the pond 4 weeks ago I installed an auto feeder in my exuberance / inexpierience with heating and the auto feeder etc I think I over fed them.

I got a huge increase of protein in the pond and the DOCS increased I also got a reduction in the PH from 7.5 down to 6.8.

to resolve it I set up the protein skimmer that I built from Johno's design and left it running for 4 days then PP'd the pond at 2%

I also added a couple of PH pills to the return from the filter which has helped the KH recover.

I'm also now only feeding 3 times per day. morning by hand - midday by auto feeder and evening by hand.

that way I can monitor the fishes response to food intake until I can sort out the feed amount through the auto feeder.

it hasnt taken the water long to recover and is almost clear again now
