I wondered if any one can help I have a Japanese Akita that is 6 months old but never seems to eat unless I feed it to her by hand. She eats very little and never seems to add any weight I have taken her to the vets who advise that there is nothing to worry about.

Has any one else experienced these problems.

I had the same problem with my beagle from the day we brought her home she would not eat unless fed by hand. Again the vets said its fine she will eat when she is hungry. This is all well and good but i could not see a healthy plump puppy loosing weight and proper growth when she was to be a show dog. We tried everything from different foods, dishes, food toppers, feeding off the floor playing fetch for food and a food play ball. It is very frustrating but i can know say our girl eats like a true beagle should very greedy. It took nearly 2 months for her to eat herself but i would not have just left her, i think she would of starved she was that stubborn at eating.

Try adding somthing very tasty to the food if it is dry food you feed, fresh meat, tripe, sardines, scrambled egg or cheese.

Many Thanks
