The QuoteRack web channel provides users with the opportunity to compare
insurance quotes from a wide range of specialist insurance brokers using a
single online quotation request. The challenge for OMNIX was that the website
had to offer over 120 different categories of insurance, including cover for
non-standard risks and those types of insurance that visitors may have found
difficult to insure elsewhere. Most personal and many commercial categories
had to be included. From Rare / Unlisted Car Insurance, Winter Sports Travel Insurance, and Pet - Older Pets to 50+ Life Insurance, Commercial - Non-Standard Goods, Business - Entertainment Industry and Holiday Home - Residential Park.

Within the diverse range of insurance products, many had their own particular
requirements and the website also had to cater for the many different types of
insurance brokers and financial services intermediary who would form an integral
part of the service.
Far from being a straightforward website, the requirements were extensive, demanding
and above all, had to be made easy to use for all visitors, whether a broker or a
potential client.
The Brief
The QuoteRack website offers the public a free service, enabling them to source
specialist insurance cover from a range of insurance types that is so far unrivalled
on the Internet. The simplicity of the design belies the complexity of the navigation
and software that sits behind the website.
In its simplest form, the website user can select a category of insurance that best
fits their requirements, completes a quick form and then simply waits for the insurance
quotes to come to them via a number of specialist insurance brokers.

Amongst the agreed requirements was that the QuoteRack website must be able to grow
over time. It must also be clear, easy to use and exude quality. The target market is
extremely wide, from teenagers to pensioners, so it was imperative that QuoteRack
should appeal to all and be easy to use by those not necessarily familiar with this type
of website. Above all, the finished product had to be a polished and professional
web-based service that would attract the widest audience.
Our Approach
The OMNIX Web team understood that firstly the categories would need to be organised
in a way that enabled the website user to navigated to their required type of insurance
with the minimum of effort and using the minimum number of clicks. The list of categories
was split into 12 main categories of insurance and financial service:-
The above categories were then themselves broken down into more specific sub-categories. As an example, Car Insurance contains the following sub-categories:-
Once the categories were broken down into 'parent and child' relationships the list
became much more manageable and enabled the website administrator to add new categories
of insurance at any time, using easy website maintenance screens.

The interface design team was involved from the very beginning. As the logical structure of the website became apparent
they started to produce a mock-up design of how the home page of the website would look. A site-map was produced and agreed
with the client during one of the regular client meetings.
Results
The OMNIX team have created a website that is clear, well designed and very easy to use. With a crisp bright 'core colour' and
high contracts links the website is a joy to navigate. The users eye is draw immediately to the 10 main insurance categories and from
there finding the ideal type of insurance cover is simple.
Once the user has selected a category of insurance the final steps are clearly shown. Telling the user what to expect makes the user far more likely to complete the
form process as they can see that it is literally as easy as 1-2-3.
We have created administration tools enabling our customer to add new categories, forms and change site content. We've even made it easier
for them to recruit new insurance brokers via a dedicated broker area, with an application form and an information pack request form.
Finally our client wanted to again revenue from the high level of traffic being driven to the site by the OMNIX SEO and Google Adwords campaigns by
adding advertising to the site without compromising the design and usability.
